Found: The Best Cheeseburger In The Whole World!

Au Cheval

Au Cheval

As far as I am concerned, this is the best and most coveted cheeseburger in Chicago. That last sentence is saying a lot since you can get amazing burgers at so many places in Chicago. Au Cheval is known for having long lines of people waiting before they even open – so getting a seat without having to wait was going to be a long shot. I showed up at 12:20 PM and was able to get the last spot at the bar without having to wait at all. LET’S GOOOO !!!

This is quite the operation they got going on here and it was fun to watch true mastery at work. I took a look at the menu and started contemplating my choices..

The Menu

I already know I’m getting the burger, so this is really a formality for me. The only debate I had in my head was whether to get the single cheeseburger or double cheeseburger. Quick debate – I’m getting the DOUBLE! It’s my first time here so I need to do this correctly. And yes, I will be adding the egg and bacon to it 😊

The Burger

I don’t believe I have the proper words to describe it… They should have sent a poet… This burger is amazing but first off, LOOK AT THAT BACON!? Two huge bacon slabs that have been candied and smoked – from what I can guess. And a sunny side egg on the other side of the bun. This is going to be fun. I smashed the egg bun on top of the bacon and started to get to work..

This burger hits so hard! The patties are done medium rare and perfectly seasoned. The American cheese is melted in the middle of the patties and there is also a garlic aioli on top. The creaminess of the egg yolk mixed the bacon added a great smokiness to each bite. Damn that bacon was dumb thicc. It worked out perfectly that my last bite was 60% bacon and 40% beef 😊

The French Fries

The fries were good but that garlic aioli is great! Very delicious side to compliment the cheeseburger.

Conclusion

I totally get it now. I get why there is a line of people waiting to get in there every single day. It’s the best cheeseburger I ever had. Next time I’m here I would get the single cheeseburger versus the double, but I’m glad I experienced it. It’s a lot of food and I was very full for many hours. My previous favorite burger in Chicago was the Mott Street Burger but I’m afraid Au Cheval has the edge in this department. The seasoning and the bacon is what really sets this burger apart for me. I’m very happy I decided to walk 15k steps before eating this burger. I think i earned it, right??
